Abolition Commemoration Weekend

Abolitionists Rev. John Gregg Fee, Beriah Green, Angelina Grimké, and James W.C. Pennington were inducted to National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum (NAHOF) in October 2016. The four abolitionists will be honored during commemoration activities during Abolition Weekend October 20 – 22, 2017. Friday evening October 20 students from Berea college will provide a musical program. During the Saturday afternoon Abolition Symposia a program will be presented on each abolitionists by the nominator of the abolitionist. After a 19th Century Antislavery dinner relatives and associates of each of the four abolitionists will unveil a banner that will be installed in the Hall of Fame. Sunday morning the Oneida County Freedom Trail will provide a tour of Beriah Green’s Utica. Sunday afternoon public libraries and and NAHOF will culminate a month long CommUNITY read of Invention of Wings,(an historical novel) with a presentation by Louise Knight. Knight is a researcher who is the author of a soon to be published book on Angelina and Sarah Grimké.
