La Lucha Continua/The Struggle Continues: 1985 & 2017
April 8 @ 12:00 pm - June 30 @ 6:00 pm| Free
This exhibition celebrates the 30th anniversary of the 26 La Lucha Continua murals created by the community mural collective Artmakers Inc. Addressing six political themes, the murals were painted in 1985 on the Lower East Side (Loisaida) in the La Plaza Cultural community garden. This exhibition is more than an excavation of the past or an exploration of the social, political and cultural context in which the murals were created. It is also a lens aimed at today’s Loisaida, focusing on how the neighborhood and the issues have changed, directing the eye to the future. This program was funded in part by a Humanities New York Action Grant.
Hours: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 12 to 6 pm, or by appointment.
