WWI CENTENNIAL: War and Peace
February 22 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
One event on February 21, 2018 at 12:00pm
This two-day project will bring together Afghanistan and Iraq veterans in Fredonia, humanities scholars who specialize in war literature, history of WWI, conflict and peace studies and the general public at large during the WWI Centennial (2018) in order to discuss what it means to end a war and to transition into peace. In an age where, as Harold Koh argues, there is no foreseeable strategy to impose temporal or geographic limits on America’s “forever wars,” how do we discourse on ending wars and peace making? What are some parallels and differences between America’s wars today and its role in WWI? These fundamental questions will guide both the readings and the roundtable discussion.
This program was funded in part by a Humanities New York Action Grant.
