The Long Island Museum is proud to host Humanities New York’s Reading & Discussion Program. In this virtual series,
participants will read thematically linked texts over the course of four sessions. The chosen topic is: American Politics and Community Today.
• What does it mean to be an American in the 21st century?
• What does a model American do?
• What responsibilities do Americans have to their communities and each other?
This theme engages with these questions and others regarding politics and the current state of civic thought, feeling, and participation. Facilitated by Dr. Mark Chambers, visiting assistant professor at Stony Brook University, each session will allow participants to discuss the books: “Between Past and Future” by Hannah Arendt and “The Book of Daniel” by E.L. Doctorow.
