The Quick and the Dead is a multi-phase, yearlong program that highlights the life, work, and legacy of a deceased writer with a series of public events and commissions. This edition focuses on Korean American poet and artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha. Seminar 1 “Migration and Memory”: This inaugural section addresses the function of cultural history, memory, and kinship within Cha’s work. Display of multi-disciplinary project Erasing Spaces and Faces: The Legacy of Urban Renewal in Saratoga Springs. Artists Marcus Anderson and Jennifer Wojtowicz will present their works and an artist demonstration of a movable mural and small scale reconstructions of erased spaces of urban renewal projects that took place in Saratoga Springs in the 1960s. A community maker-space will be open for attendees to assist in the construction of replicas of lost spaces, which is open to all ages.
