Originally titled: Moving the Past into the Future

June 4th at 5:30 PM – Films, filmmakers and activists on Latinx and other organizing from the Young Lords to today. This program presents films and media makers and organizers in conversation on the impact and use of media in activating communities – both films and social media. Presented by Third World Newsreel and Pioneer Works. Film: El Pueblo Se Levanta (The People are Rising, ( 1971, 42 min) by Newsreel and 2 short films: Coyolxauhqui and Have You Seen? (both 2017), by Colectivo Los Ingrávidos, a Mexican political media collective.

Featured speakers: Young Lords member and filmmaker/activist, Iris Morales, original Newsreel makers Bev Grant and Allan Siegel, Colectivo Los Ingrávidos (via Zoom) and the MTL Collective (Nitasha Dhillon and Amin Husain). The moderator is Teresa Basilio Gaztambide. a filmmaker and organizer.

This is the first of 4 programs this summer/fall.
