Among other cherished values, the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution was written by the Founding Fathers of the United States. This Amendment affects Americans daily and is the hallmark of our open society. The First Amendment preserves American’s freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly and petition. The proposed R & D series will present the values of the First Amendment that went into effect in 1791 and how throughout our country’s history, American’s have tested the First Amendment. The program will discuss how changes in today’s society such as new technologies, outlooks and ideologies have created new challenges to the First Amendment’s freedoms.
