When Hanan, a young Yazidi woman, crosses the Mediterranean with her family in a small rubber dinghy, she can’t yet swim. The water—and her fear of drowning—is etched in her memory. Against the backdrop of a community pool, she learns to swim in order to overcome her fears. Now a swimming instructor, Hanan teaches her younger brother how to swim.
