In a time when international rhetoric has made the word “immigration” synonymous with “invasion,” it has become dangerously easy for us to perceive other individuals as a single, threatening entity. The gift of literature is that it removes us from the specifics of our own experience and immerses us in the experiences of others. Facilitated by Professor Emeritus Louise Sullivan-Blum, this reading and discussion group will allow us to examine a variety of Muslim journeys, and discuss the ways in which the joys and challenges of these individual stories enrich our own journeys, both as individuals and as members of the larger community. The series will meet monthly from September through December at the Southeast Steuben County Library.
