Self-Guided Walking Tour : Exploring Black History Around Morris-Jumel Mansion

As the oldest surviving house in Manhattan, Morris-Jumel Mansion (MJM) has witnessed much of New York City’s rich and diverse history. Situated in Washington Heights on the border of Harlem, the Mansion and its neighborhood have been shaped by Black history. Discover significant people and sites relating to Black history connected with and surrounding the Morris-Jumel Mansion, including Anne Northup, who was the wife of ‘Twelve Years a Slave’ author Solomon Northup and a free worker in the mansion’s kitchen.
