Whitman Was Here: Walt Whitman in Coney Island
June 2 @ 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm| Free
Parachute Literary Arts invites you to come experience Walt Whitman’s bicentennial in one of his favorite places: Coney Island! Join us on the boardwalk and West 21st Street in Coney Island for a day-long festival of poetry, music, and free workshops. Featuring readings by LaTasha Nevada Diggs, Cliff Fyman, Stephanie Gray, Barbara Henry, Urayo‡n Noel, and members of the Worker Writers School. Walt Whitman’s letters from Coney Island will be read aloud on the beach by Carol Lipnik. Come listen to multilingual readings of Walt Whitman’s Crossing Brooklyn Ferry or get inspired and type your own poems at our Poetry Making Station. Join us after the readings on the roof of Kitchen 21 where The Bushwick Book Club performs songs inspired by Walt Whitman.
