YOUNG ART /ARTE JOVEN
April 29
-
La Casita’s annual spring exhibit YOUNG ART /ARTE JOVEN, will open to the public on April 29, 2023 and run through June 30. The show recognizes the talent and achievements of Syracuse youth enrolled in arts and music education programs offered at this community-based cultural center through the 2022-23 academic year. Local teaching artists have been partnering with La Casita for the past 11 years designing and facilitating community building and youth programs. La Casita is located in heart of the Near Westside of Syracuse, serving one of the poorest communities in the State of NY. The cohort of programming coordinators and volunteers include students from the School of Social Work, Public Health, Creative Arts Therapy, Museum Studies, Setnor School of Music, Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, College of Engineering & Computer Sciences, and the Engaged Humanities in general, among the academic units collaborating as a team. Students from SUNY Upstate Medical University also contribute significantly in all areas of wellness and mental health related programs.
Students from our program will display their and read their environmental writing at this event.
La Casita is a program supported by Syracuse University, established to advance an educational and cultural agenda of civic engagement through research, cultural heritage preservation, media studies, and the arts—bridging the Hispanic communities of the University and Central New York.
La Casita Cultural Center is located in the historic Lincoln Building in the city of Syracuse’s Near Westside neighborhood. The center is equipped with an art gallery, bilingual library, performance and workshop spaces used for various community gatherings and cultural events.
