by Joe Murphy, Director of Grants
For over a decade, HNY’s Action, Vision, and Quick Grants have supported cultural organizations in planning and implementing their humanities-based programming. In 2025, HNY will revise these offerings in order to better serve the needs and interests of public humanities practitioners across New York State.
In short, the aim is to offer a single program-implementation grant that will organize grantees into theme-specific cohorts, or groups with shared interests, to discuss the latest trends in New York’s public humanities field. This single grant line will consolidate the current configuration of Action, Vision and Quick Grants into a singular Action grant that will will help increase the impact of HNY funding while offering space for collaborative learning and network building among grantee stakeholders.
This is more refinement than rupture: the changes are meant to strengthen ties with long–time partners—those who have received Action, Vision and Quick Grants in the past and benefited from HNY’s quarterly Grantee Circles—while ensuring that new grantees in 2025 and beyond enter into a robust and responsive community of public-humanities practitioners. The purpose of our grant–making remains the same: to give all New Yorkers, regardless of background, the opportunity to reflect on their values, explore new ideas, and engage with others in their community.
HNY will post more information on this exciting new initiative on our website throughout January and February. Please sign up for our newsletter to receive updates. We look forward to introducing bigger, more impactful grants in the new year!

- Vision, and Quick Grants are no longer available as of December 1, 2024. (The last deadline for Vision and Quick grants was November 30th, 2024, for projects starting January 1, 2025.)
- The above changes will not affect the requirements or project timelines of grantees with active Action, Vision, or Quick Grants.

- Revised HNY grant guidelines will be made available on the HNY website by In March, 2025.
- HNY will introduce office hours for addressing applicant questions. Please stay tuned for more information about the schedule of these sessions.
