Stony Brook University’s Jennifer Anderson recently HNY for a Long Island-centric edition of our Land, Liberty & Loss: Echoes of the American Revolution series.
Anderson homed in on Eastern Long Island’s Unkechaugi band and their forced interactions with settlers, including Declaration of Independance-signee William Floyd. Sharing new research from Floyd’s namesake estate in present-day Mastic Beach, she provided perspective on the experiences of exploited laborers and put the current, racially segregated geography of Long Island into relief.
