We had two first generation immigrants who spoke about their experience. After hearing their stories, the other students became involved in expressing their positive feelings about immigration.”

Community Conversations offers everything you need to run a lively discussion on important topics. Each conversation is lead by a trained facilitator, includes 10-20 participants, and uses a toolkit to guide the discussion. The toolkit contains a short text focused on a topic central to American life such as immigration, MLK Jr. Day of Service, the environment, or democracy. You can browse the full listing of themes below. Most toolkits are designed for different all age groups (Adults, Young Adults, and Kids) while select others are intended for specific age groups.
Anyone may host a Community Conversation. Tax-exempt organizations in New York State are eligible to receive a $200 micro-grant to help defray the cost of hosting the program.
Community Conversations may be scheduled at any time of the year, though some themes are well-suited to commemorations, holidays and other seasonal events.
