CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) & CONVERSATION IMPACTS
There are currently three ways to engage with HNY's Community Conversations, but we urge you to use prudence when scheduling these meetings and consult all local, state, and federal health guidance and procedures before applying for and conducting Community Conversations.
First, we are still accepting applications from New York-based nonprofit organizations that intend to host future conversations. HNY is now considering applications from organizations that will be hosting Community Conversations via online platforms, such as Zoom. For these Conversations to be eligible for the $200 microgrant, organizations need to apply through our normal process, below.
Second, for a limited time any individual or organization can explore our Community Conversation toolkits. We only ask that you register before using these materials. These conversations are not eligible for microgrants. See below to access our virtual toolkits.

Community Conversation Toolkits
Everything you need to run your own town-hall event, and a micro-grant to help fund it. A facilitator, chosen by your group, leads a conversation for 8-20 participants using the training and materials supplied by Humanities NY. The program toolkit contains a short text focused on a hot topic or occasion in American life such as immigration, MLK Jr. Day of Service, the environment, or democracy. You can browse the full listing of themes below. Toolkits are available for Adults, Young Adults, and Kids, unless otherwise noted.
Anyone may host a Community Conversation. Please note that for a limited time anyone and any organization can explore our Community Conversation toolkits. We only ask that you register before using these materials. Tax-exempt organizations in New York State that submit an application and receive approval are eligible to receive a $200 micro-grant to help defray the cost of hosting the program.
Community Conversations may be scheduled at any time of the year, though some themes are well-suited to commemorations, holidays and other seasonal events.
Schedule a Community Conversation by clicking the link below. If you have questions about the program, please contact the Director of Programs, Michael Washburn.
Humanities New York will make every effort to work with Community Conversation partners who postpone their programming. Please notify Michael Washburn with any Community Conversation changes or cancellations.
